Hey guys, BT here with a few updates from the Poptropica universe.

Somewhere right now in South Carolina, our CYDI winner Sarah must be squealing in delight, because the first two Daily Pops obviously for her winning island, Arabian Nights Island, have surfaced:

Desert and… desert station. This is really an obvious Arabian Nights Daily Pop – which leaves me to wonder if this island’s episodes are gonna criss-cross PoptropiCon’s episodes, just like Survival and Mission Atlantis.

Now anyways, if you’ve looked at the Creator’s Blog recently, you’ll notice that they changed their side format… again. Of course we have our two apps, the books, the shirts, and the video games links all snug next to each othe—

Wait…what is that picture next to the Video Games link? That doesn’t look familiar… It doesn’t look like the original Poptropica Adventures cover…

Yet I can kinda see the Ubisoft logo on the new cover….

It looks to me like there’s gonna be a Poptropica Adventures 2!!

But wait… when I look closer… I see two words… For some strange reason, it reminded me of the Forgotten Islands app… Yet I see pictures of the red ninja, the Aztec warrior, that pirate from Forgotten Islands and…I can’t tell who’s the last one.

What’s going on here?? I have no clue. After all, not an ounce of this is mentioned on the videogame page itself…

Hey everyone! HP and I were looking behind the scenes and found Arabian Nights: Episode 1’s name & much more about the island! The name is: How Bazaar.

The name is so suitable to this island from what we’ve seen. Some recent Daily Pops have been showing a market, which in the Middle East is called a bazaar.

Whattya Buyin: Got some good things on sale, stranger.

The sneak peek description above tells us we are strangers to the area, which goes with the pitch given by the CYDI contest winner:

On Arabian Nights Island, Poptropicans go on a quest across the desert to rescue a sultan’s genie from the Forty Thieves.

The pitch also mentions “sultan’s genie from the Forty Thieves”. Arabian Nights Island is based on the classic tales of Aladdin and the King of Thieves and Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves. Now, let’s go back to the name of the first episode: How Bazaar (nice pun, Creators :P).

After putting all the pieces together and using a bit of reasoning, my prediction is this: You are at the bazaar and the forty thieves take the genie and you travel the desert trying to rescue the genie.

The Creators are making this island in episodes once again, so this won’t happen all in one episode. It’s just my prediction of the basic plot of the island. This week I will make another groundbreaking post about Arabian Nights, so stay tuned! c:

HP and I were looking behind the scenes and found some amazing stuff about Arabian Nights Ep. 1: How Bazaar! As you see below, that is the background of the Cliff on Arabian Nights Ep. 1. This is the first background and it explains what to do on a part of the island. (click on it for better detail)

This one below is of the Cave on Arabian Nights Ep. 1 (continued from the pic above), and it also explains what to do in that part of the island. Looks like there was some kind of mining accident that occurred here years before you’ll go in. (click on it for better detail)

If you haven’t seen some of the latest Daily Pop sneak peeks of Arabian Nights Ep. 1, How Bazaar, well here they are (again, click to enlarge):

One especially caught my eye, “The Camp Value”. If you notice in the Cave background above, there’s a place that says “abandoned campsite of previous explorers”.

It could be that the Daily Pop pic is a picture of another explorer’s previous camp, or your own campsite that you make on the island. This island is looking better and better! If I find anything interesting I’ll try to make another post. :D

I can show you the world… — “I DON’T WANT TO SEE IT!” Oh, but you’ll want to see this!

Hey Poptropicans! So last week’s buzz was about the release of PoptropiCon Ep. 1 for members, and Mission Atlantis Ep. 3 for everyone — but looking ahead, let’s see what we can find out about the upcoming Arabian Nights Island — in particular, the first episode: “How Bazaar”!

WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW (but that’s what you want, isn’t it?)

:: overview ::

About a month ago, the PHB posted sneak peeks of some backgrounds of places we’d be visiting on the island, which had some rough notes on them. These have since been updated with backdrops, foregrounds, and the like. (Special thanks to Poptrickia for putting these together into corresponding images and allowing them to be used in this post!) First, here’s a look at the Cliff area (click to enlarge):

To the right of the cliff image with the notes, it says “to cave” — that’s because we’ll be venturing into one! Here you can see the updated Cave scene (where the bag of salt lies in a lower corner):

(The corner with the crystals also looks like a Daily Pop sneak peek that we originally thought might mean the return of Legendary Swords. Looks like that theory’s out, sadly! :P )

Anyway, at some point (perhaps the beginning), you’ll speak to the Sultan, who resides in a beautiful palace (with its lovely exterior illustrated by Nate Greenwall):

It’s not so pretty on the inside though — that’s because, as per the episode’s plot, it’s been ransacked by the Forty Thieves! The palace is in disarray, but more importantly, the sultan’s precious lamp has gone missing… and as those who are familiar with Arabian legend know, that lamp is supposed to contain a genie that has now disappeared!

Among Poptrickia’s uncoverings was this snippet of conversation you have with the Sultan:

You: What happened here?
Sultan: The forty thieves happened! They ransacked my palace and left me with nothing.

You: You mean, you’re broke?
Sultan: Money can be replaced, but the thieves took one precious thing from me: a lamp that is like no other. Find it, and I will grant you a fabulous reward.

You: How can I find the lamp?
Sultan: I don’t know. But perhaps you can start your quest with this. It is my last jewel. Trade it wisely.

So, remember Blake’s post showing the items you’d obtain in Arabian Nights? You’ll be trading some of these in the Bazaar (a Middle Eastern market), and based on the above, it looks like you’ll be starting off with the Sultan’s crown jewel.

Inside these pretty patterned stalls, you’ll get to trade/barter with the store owners, which may or may not involve the items pictured below, placed in the various stall scenes:

And we can’t forget the Daily Pop sneak peeks! These can give some insights to the island as well, like the fact that the oasis may just be a mirage, that the palace is heavily guarded, and that the telescope item can be found atop a palace minaret. The Creators even referenced CliffsNotes! Oh my.

Looking back to the original island pitch from Sarah S., the winner of Poptropica’s Create Your Dream Island Contest and brainchild of Arabian Nights Island, here’s what we know:

On Arabian Nights Island, Poptropicans go on a quest across the desert to rescue a sultan’s genie from the Forty Thieves.

Now, onto the theories! From what’s been gathered here, it looks like the Sultan’s palace has been ransacked by the infamous Forty Thieves, and his most precious belonging — a lamp containing a (wish-granting?) genie — is now missing. Once you get past all the palace guards and manage to talk to the Sultan, he asks you to help him retrieve it. He gives you his last jewel to trade in the bazaar, in the hopes that you’ll eventually win his lamp back. Along the adventure, you’ll venture into a cliff, cave, and desert to look for various items requested by the barterers at the bazaar.

How bizarre, indeed.

Oh I come from a land, from a faraway place
Where the islands freely roam
The oceans are immense and it does get intense
It’s barbaric, but hey, it’s home!
A new island emerges, and the joy just surges
‘Specially from young Sarah tonight!
Come on down, stop on by, hop on your blimp and fly
To the brand new Arabian Nights!

Arabian Niiiiiiiiiights had just been annouuuuuunced!
Oh yes, the logo and the island’s info had just come arouuuuuuuund!
Arabian Niiiiiiiiiights will have three episooooooooodes!
First is How Bazaar!, and robbed from afar, is the Sultan’s abooooooode!

After the forty thieves ransack his city, a desperate sultan has one request: find the thieves’ lair, and bring back his most cherished possession!

*ahem* Okay, enough with the Disney’s Aladdin references, I have a feeling a lot more will be made in the future by my fellow authors. Ah well, just follow me on my magic carpet and we’ll see what else is on that info page- which is actually not too much more. The only other things we see are a few scenery images, a picture of 1/40ths of the forty thieves clan (seen right), and the desktop wallpaper and the printable poster, seen below.

So I don’t know about you, but I’m intrigued… What will the gold cards be? When will the trailer release? When will it come out? Only time will tell.

Thoughts on Arabian Nights

We already knew about Arabian Nights of course, but the recent announcement reveals some epic wallpapers and descriptions. As I was reading, however, I found something that sort of peeved me.

In Arabian Nights, players will travel across the desert trying to rescue the Sultan’s lamp from the 40 Thieves. Prepare for an adventure full of magic, treachery, and danger, in a setting like none we’ve ever created!

I’ve made my standing on this topic known, but in-fact there has been an Arabian setting created in Poptropica before. One of the many ports that Skullduggery island has is called Golden Harbor. It has an Arabian theme, thus they have created a similar setting before. Just wanted to point this out. :P

Drawing Poptropicans with Jon Pitcher

The Creators recently posted a video on their Youtube Channel featuring Poptropica illustrator Jon Pitcher. In the video, he shows you how he draws Poptropicans, and how you can make your own. While the camera is a little shaky, I still think that the Poptropicans he drew in the end were awesome. :D

I might just make a video tutorial for drawing my Poptropican style sometime in the near future too. :)

Jeff Heim’s Account

I recently asked Poptropica’s sound producer Jeff Heim to make a Poptropica account, to which he responded that he already had one – his username is jeffheim88, and his Poptropican’s name is Lazy Cactus! While he hasn’t completed any islands, he does have membership and apparently believes in Big Foot. :P He lives in New Hampshire, US, and is a member of the Black Flag tribe.

If you check out his site, you’ll also find a video (using all Poptropica music) where he explains what he does – note the smile when he mentions Poptropica. ;)

 7th Birthday Costumes

You may know about the 7th birthday balloon that you can get free in the store, but they also released two new mysterious costumes – the Egyptian Mummy and the Scarecrow. These both can be found in the Haunted House mini-quest, and are fully costumizable there. It’s quite a mystery why they’re there – for one thing, they should be in the costumes section. Also, how does this relate to Poptropica’s birthday? Only time will tell, I guess. :P

Hey everyone! The Creators just announced that Arabian Nights, Ep.1: How Bazaar, is coming out next Thursday, October 2 for members! An awesome trailer video was recently released as well:

Wow. Those Forty Thieves are not to be messed with. (But being the plucky Poptropicans we are, that’s exactly what we’re going to do, isn’t it?)

Remember how I said Arabian Nights Island shouldn’t have been made? Well, it turns out, I can’t wait for the island! With all the sneak peeks we have shown you here on the PHB, I hope you are ready for Arabian Nights Island and can’t wait for it too! The PHB will have a guide up as soon as possible after the episode comes out, so stay tuned. And here are some recent Daily Pop pics for the island:

Hey Poptropicans! Along with all the behind-the-scenes ideas the Creators have been tweeting recently, they’ve also put in some sketched-out scenes for Arabian Nights Island (which comes out this Thursday for members)! (click to enlarge images below)

And we’ve already seen the logo drafts for Mission Atlantis, but the Creators have just tweeted some logo designs for Arabian Nights Island as well! I personally like the final logo the best, but all of them are pretty cool. :)

Plus, there is finally an Arabian Nights members only item out! It’s a printable poster of a book cover with your Poptropican on it (similar to the PoptropiCon poster). Here’s what it looks like:

New ads: Star Wars Rebels & Skylanders Trap Team

Ads have been getting a lot of hype recently – what with banners, cards taking you to the ads, carousel slots, and mentions on the Creator’s Blog – and the funny thing is that the actual ads themselves are just billboard ads. The two newest are for the Star Wars Rebels and the Skylanders Trap Team.

Upon logging in, you’ll obtain two cards that will take you to each ad. After watching the trailer videos for both campaigns, you’ll collect a Snap Shot Costume from the Skylanders ad, and a Stormtrooper Helmet from the Star Wars ad.

My favorite out of the two is the Stormtrooper helmet, as it has a bobblehead effect – and while the teal dragon costume does as well, I think the helmet looks cooler. :D

Thinknoodles mention

I recently sent in some fan art to Thinknoodles (a popular YouTube gamer who plays Poptropica), and he gave me his “Golden Noodle Award” on his Minecraft Survival series! :D The idea of this is that in each episode, someone who sent in an awesome idea or cool fan art gets a sign on Thinknoodles’s tree with their name on it. Watch the video below and skip to 0:52 to see my mention. :)

As for the artwork, it’s a drawing of his Poptropican, Speedy Catfish (his username is thinknoodles), and I put a lot of effort into this one. I also have a new drawing software, which I think will improve the quality of my art, and thus the quality of your Poptropica Portraits. ;)

Poptropica Land: public preview

The Creators recently announced that a two week long public preview for Poptropica Land will be commencing October 16th (in 6 days!), and will end October 30th. There’s even a countdown to the big day on the front page!

During this period, everyone, including non-members, will be able to access Land. This is a big opportunity for non-members to send in their creations to the Creators. They’ll be posting their favorites to the blog as mentioned in the post. :D

Upcoming big launches

Poptropica recently tweeted a “behind the scenes” email from Poptropica HQ about some upcoming big launches. (Oh look, they use Gmail! :P ) As mentioned above, next Thurs (Oct 16) they plan to release public access to Land for a Poptropica-sponsored contest. On the same day, we’ll be getting a “New Start World” and some “polish and bug fixes” to Land as well! We’ll have to wait to see what’s new.

The Thursday after that (Oct 23), the first episode of Arabian Nights (How Bazaar) will be released to all! And finally, coming soon to Poptropica’s mobile app is Ep. 1 of PoptropiCon (no date mentioned).

Poptropica Pioneers

I’ve recently started a new video series on my Youtube Channel similar to Thinknoodles’ Road to Captain Thinknoodles series, entitled Poptropica Pioneers. The idea is that a few days after I release my video walkthrough for the newest release, I upload a recording of me trying to figure out the island/episode for the first time.

From the feedback I’ve been getting, people are really seeming to enjoy it, so check out the first episode below and tell me what you think. :D Of course you’ll be able to view new releases of walkthroughs and Poptropica Pioneers on my channel, so go subscribe to that if you’d like. :P

Free Halloween costumes

If you remember a few weeks back during Poptropica’s 7th birthday, a couple of ghastly costumes popped up in the Store and then strangely disappeared. They have now returned for Halloween spirit – and if you don’t remember, they are the Egyptian Mummy and the Scarecrow from the Haunted House quest, now made into gold card items. You can get them for free in the Store!

In addition, you can get some more free Halloween-themed costume cards from the bottom half of the Store page! These aren’t new, but they’ve never been free before today either.

Girls can get the Furry Monster 1, 2, and 3, Werewolf Girl, Bride of Frankenstein, Vampire Girl 1, and Little Demon; boys can get the Furry Monster 1, 2, and 3, Werewolf Boy, Frankenstein, and Little Demon – all for the great price of 0 credits! >:D

Another behind-the-scenes sketch has popped up on Poptropica’s Twitter, and this one’s an early character sketch for the unreleased Arabian Nights, Ep. 3! From the looks of it, it’s a female genie – perhaps the one from the Sultan’s lamp? We’ll have to wait and see.

What’s popping, Poptropicans? Blake here, with a little bit of a Twitter-recap post. Now, we’ve covered a lot of things, but the Poptropica Twitter just keeps popping up with more! If you haven’t caught on by now, this is the main hotspot besides the Daily Pop or Creators’ Blog that you might use to get up-to-date on some of the news and other tidbits circulating the realm of Poptropica.

For example, did you know that Arabian Nights Island: Episode 2 comes out for members on November 25th (which, in a shocking turn of events, is a Tuesday and not the traditional Thursday)? For everyone else, it comes out December 11th (3 weeks later, on Thursday).

Or did you see this behind-the-scenes art made for the Cryptids Island book?

Now we delve into the realm of Poptropica Land for a few “Goodbye Land” creations! The Creators mention in the last one “Until January”… Could this mean that Lands is coming out for all next year?

And to make sure this post lasts for “infinity”… *star with rainbow trail shoots above head with the words “Blake’s Horrible Pun of the Day” on it* Here’s a small recap of the new Disney Infinity 2.0 Edition Disney Originals ad! I know that we got one in the past with the Marvel heroes, but now the Disney Originals are coming out to play.

If you log in, you may get a card with a Poptropican version of Aladdin (Creators, I know you read this blog. Make the Poptropica Aladdin costume a thing. I would buy so many of them). It says to “Come meet the whole gang!” Click on the little bubble thingy (have we coined a term for that thing? let’s call it a Popper, shall we?), and you’ll be taken to the ad on Super Villain Island.

Okay, time to demonstrate my knowledge of Disney. When you click the ad, you get a Disney Originals power which will make Disney’s Stitch, Aladdin, Maleficient, Merida, Donald Duck, Tinker Bell and Baymax appear on your screen. Pictures of the ad and the two cards are below!

Lastly, I’d like to give a shout out to our dear friend here at the PHB, Fuzzy-B. He’s leaving the blog after about two good years of being an author here, and we here at the PHB will miss him dearly. Hey everyone, and welcome back to our BTS Overview & Theory series! This time, we’ll be covering Arabian Nights, Ep. 2: Lair of Thieves, written by myself (Spotted Dragon), Samwow5, and HPuterpop. WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW (but that’s what you want, isn’t it?)

Overview of evidence

The next installment of Arabian Nights Island is just around the corner – we mentioned earlier that early access for members starts Nov 25, and it opens Dec 11 for all… HOWEVER, as of a more recent tweet, it looks like the Creators have pushed this back in their schedule: early access for members is now set for Dec 11, while everyone will get to play starting Dec 30.)

Episode 2 is called “Lair of Thieves“, and the official tour page was recently updated with this description:

In the den of the forty thieves, danger lurks around every corner. To outwit the most dangerous thieves in the desert, you’ll need a little help evening the odds — and you’ll find it in the form of an incredible magic power!

Oddly enough, the behind the scenes files show that this episode is called The 40 Thieves.

Strange, right? Well, let’s just continue with the name being “Lair of Thieves.”

Let’s take a a look at some of the major Arabian Nights themed Daily Pop sneak peeks. Click to enlarge all images featured in this post.

Also, check out these two images in the same scene… very similar, but if you look towards the top, you can see a little difference. Could that added Poptropican be us, spying in the lair of the 40 thieves?

Maybe some dialog will hint at what’s to come? Here is all the text we could gather up:

Now this reveals a lot! It looks like we will have to disguise ourselves to fit in among the thieves, as well as break out of/into some jail cells! We already knew that we would be in search of a magic lamp, but something bigger seems to have popped up. Hmm…

Hopefully the items we found will reveal what’s really going on? Sadly, we are not able to view entire images, since they are protected files.

Well, the magic sand and/or gunpowder may help us break in to/out of cells… and on that note, it seems like the viper skin will aid in creating the magic sand! …And on THAT note, since we have a formula containing “viper skin,” “borax,” and “quicksilver“, maybe those three items (plus more?) will create magic sand when put together! Oh, the suspense! Of course the cell key will help us unlock a cell and we will have to make the white robe black to fit in with the thieves. Looks like everything fits together! :D

All that’s left is to put together some scenery. Below are the scene layers of the lair’s entrance.

There is nothing much to say about these images, considering it is just the entrance.

Next up we have some of the scene layers for the Treasure Keep. Here are just the relevant ones:

In the interactive layer, you can see part of the floor crumbling. Could this be the result of our magic sand?

Next up are the scene layers for the cells.

Again, we see some unstable floors and what may possible be the magic sand bomb-like things.

Last, we have the scene layers for the Sanctum.

Well, we see an oil can in the interactive layer, and if we math it up with the other layers, it looks like it is inside a barrel. That might be a useful thing to remember in the quest.

Final theory

In “Lair of Thieves,” our Poptropican will be searching for the magic lamp that the Sultan requested (in episode 1), while trying to outsmart the thieves in the lair we entered at the end of the previous episode. We will disguise ourselves to fit in with the surrounding thieves and try to gather up ingredients to make “magic sand”, which will help us navigate their lair. While sneaking around, we stumble upon a huge supply of lamps and possibly something more.

Hey Poptropicans! First of all, there’s been a change of plans regarding the release of Arabian Nights, Episode 2 (Lair of Thieves) – although it was previously reported that it would come out Nov 25 (Tuesday) for members and Dec 11 for all, a more recent tweet is now saying that early access for members will start Dec 11, and everyone else must wait until Dec 30 to play. :(

PopStorm #7 recently popped up on Twitter – this one’s an a-meow-zing collection of fat cats. Aren’t they just purr-fect? ;) Fur real though.

Last last week saw Poptropica comics return after a little hiatus, but it looks like we only got two more strips since then before the Creators declared another break. However, our young Frankenstein-creating heroes will be returning in 2015!

Did you know that Poptropica Creators sit at home wearing big orange beaks on their faces while conferencing about common rooms for the app over Google Hangout? Well, that’s what this tweet and picture tells us. Not exactly sure who’s who, but from the list we do see a “Chris” (Barney?) and “Jeff” (Kinney? Heim?). Thoughts? :P

I wanted to make a quick post for the Kindle Fire users of the community – I also own a Kindle Fire – to tell them that they can in fact install Poptropica on their Kindle Fire (it’s free, too!). Watch the video below (I apologize for the poor quality of the screen recordings).

The only drawback to this is that you won’t be able to make in app purchases (basically, you won’t be able to install the islands that cost money).

In other news, a news site called BellyFeel recently posted a ten-minute Skype interview they had with Jeff Kinney, Poptropica’s founder (and Diary of a Wimpy Kid author). Check out the video below, or read the transcribed conversation on their site.

In the video, Jeff discusses some of the thought processes behind Poptropica, including scrapping the idea of our characters having their own home/apartment, the decision to switch to episode format due to the popularity of mobile gaming, and even a confession about the original name of Poptropica – “Poptropolis” – being altered due to Nicktropolis, as Brave Tomato theorized in a previous post.
